The $500million push notification sent by Amazon Prime video
Amazon’s Lord of the Rings costs a whopping ~$500m for one season which premieres Sept 2nd. For perspective that is almost 5 times what HBO spent on Game of thrones ($100m per season).
1. Product Strategy- “Game of Hits”: New “hits” to drive more users in the streaming race has been the core strategy. This has to bring incremental MAUs to continue growing against Netflix and Disney+ and even better if it adds incremental prime users (in the US, UK) as the ultimate gains (very hard to move considering a large base)
2. Marketing strategy: I am sure it’s a multi channel robust marketing strategy. However, I am more excited to see how they upsell/cross sell this within the Amazon products and secondly use YouTube as a way to creatively pull people into Amazon Prime video.
Excited for the season and also for the results post launch 🚀
